The Tamilnadu Textile Corporation was incorporated on 24.4.1969 as a fully owned Government Company under the Companies Act.1956 with the following objectives.
Main Objectives
To set up and run Textile Mills in the State of Tamilnadu. To carry on the business of Textile Mills in all its branches and to manage any such business or undertaking relevant to the Textile Industry.

The Tamilnadu Textile Corporation owned and run 3 Powerloom Complexes and one Air jet Weaving unit.
The uniform cloth required under Government Free School Uniform Scheme and Dhothies under Dhothy Saree Distribution Scheme of Government of Tamil Nadu are produced in the Aruppukottai and Sivagiri Powerloom Complexes, Auto Loom Shed, Kurichi and Air jet weaving unit, Kurichi. Apart from this Suiting, Shirting Saree, blankets, towel etc are also supplied to the Government Institutions and Public Sector Undertakings as per their requirement.
Now TNTC is acting as Nodal Agency for Powerloom Weavers Co-Operative Societies in procuring uniform cloth to school children under various schemes of Government and also procuring Sarees and Dhothies under Dhothy Saree Distribution Scheme and supply them to the Department Concerned. TNTC is also supplying polyester uniform cloth to various Govt. Institutions.
TNTC is providing employment to 119 workers and 13 staff.
The Board of Directors is headed by the Commissioner of Handlooms and Textiles as its Chairman.
